Not sure what happen but I noticed today most of the images from the post and the blog have gone missing. I will replace the images as I can relocate them because I do not always keep these once the post is published.
Really strange.

Waco TX Jan 1874
A request for Agents for a new book was posted in the January 3rd edition of The Waco Daily Examiner, Waco, TX (Check here for the The Waco News-Tribune) The image isn't good so I will post a transcript of what I could make out.
NEW BOOK FOR AGENTS.
We want Agents everywhere for a new book, and beautifully illustrated work, the author's own adventures, entitled "Wild life in the far West," Comprising incidents of nearly thirty years of hunting and trapping, captivity among the Comanches, in the Indian wars, _ _ _ with Apaches, Grizzly Bears, etc. _ _ _ _ interesting. Send for Illustrated Circular and the most liberal terms, or if in haste to begin work, send $1.00 for complete outfit to F. A. HUTCHINSON & CO, New Orleans, La.
I found a reprint of this book, Wild life in the far west: personal adventures of a border mountain man on Amazon.com. written by Capt. James Hobbs.
James Hobbs is buried in the Dayton National Cemetery, Montgomery Co., Ohio. His memorial on Findagrave.com states he was the great-grandson of Chief Tecumseh.
24 January 1874
I was not able to locate any further information on Joshua I. Johnson who passed away in Waco on 22 Jan 1874 as stated in this brief news report:
It seems the McClellan House was busy as they had some distinguished guest
Judge Powhatan Lockett of Ala.was a CSA veteran, having served as the Military Store Keeper. I found 19 pages of military records for him on Fold3 under the Alabama Confederate Civil War records section. Here is his signature from a letter written in 1863:
He is buried in the Oakwood Cemetery, Montgomery, Montgomery Co. Ala.

Walter Walters
I was looking through some old newspapers online and I came across a short article about a young man drowning on the 8th of June 1884 in Ft. Worth, TX
TRANSCRIPTION:
Newspapers.com
Of course I attempted to locate his memorial on Find A Grave and I did find one but I am not sure if it is the correct one since there was no headstone shown to verify the dates.
I went to Ancestry.com to see if I could find a census for a Walter Walters in Michigan born about 1861.
Source Citation:
Year: 1880; Census Place: Kalamazoo, Kalamazoo, Michigan;
Roll: 586; Family History Film: 1254586; Page: 120C;
Enumeration District: 132; Image: 0241.
Perhaps someone who is researching this family will find this small amount of information helpful.

Walter WaltersWhat we can take away from the article is that Walter was born some time in 1861; he worked for the Santa Fe railroad; that he died on June 8, 1884 in Ft. Worth, TX. This city covers over 350 miles and spreads into Denton, Johnson, Parker, Tarrant, and Wise counties.
Oak Ridge Cemetery, Springfield, Sangamon Co. IL

Old pages and old friends
While I do try to focus on Texas genealogy and the history that surrounds those I research, I love all things having to do with the past. Even the genealogy of others with whom I have no kinship.
I bought an old 1887 autograph album from friends John and Lisa on eBay, Here is one page with many signatures
This album is from Warren Ohio and has dates from 1887 to 1902.
John and Lisa have many other items for sale on eBay if you enjoy these sorts of vintage, antique treasures. http://myworld.ebay.com/tea03rose
John Grant (http://www.johnthomasgrant.com) and Lisa Griffiths (http://www.victorianalady.com). Together they have "The Passion Projects" on Facebook.
John photographs cemeteries and has published a great book:
Lisa is an expert on the Victorian era (IMHO). She has also written a book on Steampunk fashions:
You can see all their amazing works on John's Blog:

Old Ad Art 1899
I love to collect the old artwork from the newspapers. Today I am posting a few I have found.
Enjoy!
Enjoy!
This was found in the 1899 Corsicana Semi-weekly Light newspaper [Texas].
A bathing suit ad for May 1899
From a May 1899 ad
These were all clipped from Texas newspapers and the originals were not very good so I apologize for the outcome.
